Devin Scallions received his bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Utah. During his undergraduate internship he worked for the District Attorney’s office as a domestic violence victim advocate in addition to his full-time job at the hospital. He then went on to complete his Master of Social Work also through the University of Utah. He was a counselor at the county drug court program for his internship. There, he would facilitate substance use groups and individual therapy to assist clients through their addiction. Once completed with school, Devin joined the Crisis and Diversion Services team at the University Neuropsychiatric Institute to conduct crisis assessments and assist clients with resources or determining the need for hospitalization and stabilizing their mental health crisis. Additionally, Devin has worked in the emergency department of a children’s hospital where he would assist families and patients through physical and mental health crisis. Later Devin moved to in-patient social work where he would assist clients through their acute mental health needs in group, family, and individual therapy to provide skills to maintain safety and navigating in their daily lives
Devin enjoys working with clients through strength-based and person-centered approach. He believes that everyone has inner strengths that can be applied to gain back their power, independence, and success. He uses cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectal behavior therapy, and motivational interviewing to help guide their success. Devin enjoys working with people who have a trauma history, addiction struggles, people who just want to gain their power and confidence back, and anything in-between.
In his free time, Devin enjoys time with family, the outdoors, laughing, joking, and fixing things.
